Sarah Gibson – Body recovered from water as part of search for missing woman in East Belfast

Unfortunately, a body has been recovered from water in East Belfast as part of the search to find missing person Sarah Gibson. Sarah was last seen at around 4:45pm on Friday, January 12, in the Orby Road area. An appeal was issued to locate her on Monday, January 15. She was last seen wearing sand-coloured Ugg boots, blue jeans with black leggings underneath, a beige top, a black leather bomber jacket with fur trim, and black thermal fingerless gloves. As part of the investigation to find her, a body has been recovered from water in the Linen Gardens area of East Belfast. Police have stated that they are treating the investigation as a sudden death at this time, and there are no further details. A PSNI spokesperson said, "Police investigating missing person Sarah Gibson have recovered a body from water in the Linen Gardens area of East Belfast this evening, Monday 15th January. This is being treated as a sudden death and there are no further details."

Man Denies Raping Woman After Meeting on Dating App

In a trial at Belfast Crown Court, a 50-year-old man, Mohammad Khader Abdel Aqel, is accused of raping a woman he met on a dating website. The jury, comprised of seven women and five men, heard that the accused and the 48-year-old woman initially connected on the Plenty Of Fish dating app. According to Crown barrister Gary McHugh KC, they exchanged messages before arranging to meet at the woman's flat on June 10. On that date, Aqel arrived, and after a hug, the woman offered him tea, which he declined. As she went to the bathroom, she later found Aqel naked in her bed. Despite her insistence on using a condom, Aqel ignored her protests and had sex with her. The incident only stopped when she slapped him and told him to leave. Aqel denies the rape allegation, claiming the sexual intercourse was consensual. The trial is ongoing, with Aqel issuing a statement through his solicitor and subsequently refusing to comment further during police interviews.
